Hitmen open pre-season schedule with a loss

Regina, SK - Adam Berg snapped a 5-5 third period tie with 4:03 remaining to give the Regina Pats a 6-5 win over the Calgary Hitmen Friday night at Co-Operators Centre.

Greg Chase scored twice in the loss for the Hitmen who opened their six game WHL pre-season schedule.

Radel Fazleev, Jake Bean and Terrell Draude also scored for Calgary with Fazleev adding a pair of assists for a team leading three points.  Travis Sanheim and Elliott Peterson both chipped in pair of helpers for the Hitmen who opted for a young line-up, dressing only nine returning players from last season.

After falling behind 3-0, Calgary struck for five unanswered second period goals before the Pats bounced back in the third period.

The Hitmen carried most of the play outshooting Regina 43-20 but Daniel Wapple was strong for the Pats making 38 saves to record the win.  Mack Shields and Kyle Dumba split the Hitmen goaltending duties.

Calgary was 3-8 on the powerplay while Regina went 1-5.

The Hitmen are back on the ice tomorrow (Saturday) to wrap up the Regina tournament with a 3pm start against the Prince Albert Raiders.

The 72 game 2014-15 regular season schedule begins on Saturday, September 20 with the Home Opener against the Red Deer Rebels.  Game time is 7:00pm at Scotiabank Saddledome.
